Kahurangi Carter to the Lead Coordination Minister for the Government's Response to the Royal Commission’s Report into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions: How will the $2 million fund for organisations that work with survivors work, and when will it be operational?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am currently awaiting further detailed advice on this. The detailed design for the fund is due to be completed in December 2024 with the fund currently expected to open in February 2025. At a high-level the fund will support: 1 local authorities including in Auckland, Waikato, Nelson, Rangitikei, Horowhenua, Porirua, Otago, Westland and Canterbury in the work underway, or proposed new projects, to care for or memorialise unmarked graves associated with psychiatric hospitals and psychopaedic sites or other sites that were places of care; and 2 non-governmental organisations providing direct support to survivors, including survivor led initiatives.
