Kahurangi Carter to the Lead Coordination Minister for the Government's Response to the Royal Commission’s Report into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions: How will the Government be working with local authorities to honour and care for unmarked graves located on care sites?

Hon Erica Stanford: I have recently written to local authorities letting them know that the fund announced by the Prime Minister as part of the national apology will support the work underway, or proposed new projects, to care for or memorialise unmarked graves associated with psychiatric hospitals and psychopaedic sites or other sites that were places of care. The detailed design for the fund is due to be completed in December 2024 with the fund currently expected to open in February 2025.
