74144 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What measures, if any, have been taken to reduce the prevalence of oral health inequalities among Māori, Pacific Island, and socioeconomically deprived New Zealanders in the quarter April to June 2024?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that Health New Zealand continues to deliver an oral health promotion initiative aimed at reducing inequalities among Māori, Pacific peoples, and socioeconomically deprived New Zealanders. This initiative delivers free toothbrushes and toothpaste, and oral health promotion, to kohanga and preschools, and as part of the Lift the Lip check delivered through Well Child Tamariki Ora services and the B4 School Check.
I am further advised that Health NZ also continues to deliver a Community Oral Health Service and to use oral health promoters to promote preventative dental care and education in schools and communities.
