Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter July to September 2024 on the priority action ‘ensure all accountability and complaints mechanisms are timely, transparent, culturally safe, responsive and fully accessible to all disabled people and their whānau’ within ‘Priority 5: Increase the visibility of disabled people in health data, research and evidence as part of an active learning system’ as part of the Ministry of Health’s ‘Provisional Health of Disabled People Strategy: 2023’?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that the Provisional Health of Disabled People Strategy sets the direction for improving the health and wellbeing of disabled people over the 10 year period from July 2023 to July 2033. Monitoring the Provisional Health of Disabled People Strategy will be undertaken by officials at key points in the accountability cycle. Consequently, no formal monitoring has been undertaken of priorities that were progressed through actions in the specific quarter July to September 2024. Since the Provisional Health of Disabled People Strategy was published the Government Policy Statement (GPS) on Health has been issued. The GPS sets expectations for the health entities over the three years from July 2024. This includes improving the health of disabled people.
