Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has occurred to address the recommendation for “increased resourcing for the intensive care unit”, as contained in the report on Te Whatu Ora Mid Central’s workplace culture prepared by Jonathan Black, as at 12 November 2024?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that MidCentral has successfully recruited to all nursing positions in ICU along with a 24/7 Patient at Risk nursing team, which is making a significant difference to the daily management of Medical Emergency Calls. I am also advised that recruitment to ICU SMO vacancies is a major focus for MidCentral. In the interim, it is using 6 to 12 month locum contracts, with internal SMOs covering additional shifts as required.
