Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Finance: Did the Minister receive advice from the Treasury suggesting that she should consider whether ‘the purpose of continued ownership of KiwiRail is purely commercial or whether public benefits are the priority;' if so, has she made any decisions as to Kiwirail's purpose?

Hon Nicola Willis: Ministers have received advice from the Treasury on the Crown’s ownership purpose for many companies. This work is going and Ministers are yet to make final decisions. The advice indicates that the purpose for Crown ownership, which is different from companies’ own purpose, should be broader than simply generating a sufficient commercial return.
