73566 (2024). Lan Pham to the Minister of Conservation: Has the Department of Conservation reduced active protection of freshwater catchments and species since February 2024?

Hon Tama Potaka: The Department of Conservation continues to actively protect priority freshwater catchments and species. The Department reduced funding for its freshwater programmes to achieve budget savings targets. The budget was reduced from $3.8 million to $3 million. This includes scaling down their work on the Ngā Awa River Restoration programme from 14 catchments to 12.
