72651 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Education: How many health and safety incidents, if any, occurred in the Minister's departments, if any, from 1 November 2022 to 1 November 2023?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education that from 1 November 2022 to 1 November 2023, there were 414 staff work-related incidents, including near-misses. Additionally, there were 1,181 Property and School Transport third-party contractor incidents, including near-misses. I am advised by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority that there were 16 health and safety related incidents, with no near-misses, reported for the same time period. I am advised by the Education Review Office (ERO) that there were three health and safety incidents, including near-misses, reported for the same time period. ERO leadership believed that there was under-reporting of health and safety incidents in this period, so undertook increased staff communications on the importance of reporting, and the type of incidents that should be reported.
