72548 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What reports, briefings, emails, memos, aides-memoire, notes or written advice, if any, has the Minister and/or her Office received regarding difficulty of NCEA exams; listed by title and date received?
Hon Erica Stanford: NZQA has systems and processes in place to check the alignment of examination questions with both the standard being assessed and the content and level of the curriculum from which the standard is derived. There are multiple quality assurance checks specifically for this by different individuals throughout the examination development process.
NZQA’s examination development teams include contracted teachers with assessment expertise and experience teaching the subject at the level of the examination.
Should an identified issue be validated, NZQA’s marking processes ensure no students are disadvantaged.
I have received the following emails referencing difficulty of NCEA exams:
• Level 2 External Biology exam - 8 Nov
• Response to concern about Level 2 Biology - 8 Nov
• NCEA Exam Concerns - 12 Nov
