72547 (2024). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister of Climate Change: What role, if any, does the Government see for private sector investment in meeting emissions budgets?

Hon Simon Watts: The Government expects a significant ammount of the investment required to meet emissions budgets will come from the private sector. The Government has a role in addressing barriers to this investment and ensuring the settings enable it. Supporting greater private investment in low-emissions activities, along with expertise, capability and innovation, is critical to reaching New Zealand’s climate targets. The Government will outline our approach to this issue in the second emissions reduction plan, which will be released by the end of 2024.
