72481 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Education: Is the minister satisfied that children at the community known as "Glorivale" are receiving an education which meets minimum acceptable standards; if not what steps are being taken to address the shortcomings?
Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education that within the Gloriavale community, some children are enrolled in Gloriavale Christian School, while others are either home educated or enrolled in Te Kura (the Correspondence School). Some children attend the Early Learning Service.
On 28 November 2023, the Ministry issued a Notice to Comply to Gloriavale Christian School following a Special Review where the Education Review Office (ERO) found the school to be non-compliant in six of the eight registration criteria for a private school. I am advised that the school has since brought in a range of supports.
The Ministry is receiving fortnightly reports and visiting monthly to monitor the progress of the plan the school has developed in response to the Notice to Comply.
I am also informed that ERO reviewed home education exemptions in October 2024, and has undertaken a further Special Review of education in the community.
The Ministry is awaiting the final report of the Special Review and will advise me of its next steps accordingly.
