72412 (2024). Rawiri Waititi to the Minister of Police: What community policing programmes, if any, are currently active in Ōpōtiki and similar communities to improve relationships between law enforcement and local residents?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Police and the Resilience to Organised Crime in Communities (ROCC) Work Programme, work with an array of providers in Ōpōtiki and surrounding areas. Examples in the Eastern Bay of Plenty are the Eastern Bay Iwi Provider Alliance, which includes Whakatōhea, Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau, Tuhoe Hauora and Ngāti Awa who are collectively responsible for delivering the Methamphetamine Harm Reduction initiative – Te Pou Oranga Whai Ora. Te Pou Oranga Whai Ora provides a pathway for addiction support and other wellbeing needs for all of whānau. Similarly, in Murupara Police and ROCC work closely with Te Ika Whenua Counselling Services who run the Te Ahi Mauri Methamphetamine Harm reduction programme alongside other support services and agencies including iwi to strengthen whānau wellbeing and build community resilience.
