72207 (2024). Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan to the Minister for Disability Issues: What value, if any, will the survey on Disability Support Services by Ministry of Social Development provide to the Task Force if the recommendations of the independent review are already implemented?
Hon Louise Upston: The Disability Support Services Taskforce has been set up to work on the seven recommendations of the independent review. The key objectives are to provide more certainty for the future of disability support services, work on how disability support services should best be provided in the future, and to inform how we better manage cost pressures and improve consistency, fairness, and transparency.
While some recommendations are being implemented to stabilise disability support services, policy work continues on recommendations two, five and six, which will inform how disability support services can meet those objectives and be made more sustainable.
I will not make decisions on the implementation of those recommendations without consultation. The survey is one aspect of consultation with the disability community on recommendations five and six. There will be further and broader community engagement and consultation in early 2025.
