Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does the Minister share the concern of the Commerce Commission regarding the proposed merger of Foodstuffs North and Foodstuff South Island operations, which was not satisfied that the proposed merger would not have the effect of substantially lessening competition?

Hon Andrew Bayly: It would be inappropriate for me comment on an issue which is evaluated independently by the Commerce Commission. However, I am satisfied that the analysis and decision taken by the Commission regarding the merger was well-evidenced and informed by a robust process.
