71510 (2024). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does the Minister share the concern of the Commerce Commission Chair, Dr Small, who said that with the proposed merger of Foodstuffs North and South Island "there is also a real chance that the merged entity’s buyer power would make it harder for other grocery retailers to compete and grow, potentially depriving consumers of a more competitive grocery industry in the future"?
Hon Andrew Bayly: It would be inappropriate for me comment on an issue which is evaluated independently by the Commerce Commission.
However, I am satisfied that the analysis and decision taken by the Commission regarding the merger was well-evidenced and informed by a robust process.
