71500 (2024). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Is the Minister aware that, according to the Banking Ombudsman, the average loss to scams this year was $80,000, a jump of over $20,000 from last year?

Hon Andrew Bayly: Yes. This was reported by Banking Ombudsman Scheme in its Annual Report 2023-24. It said that 45% of disputes were scam-related, and involved an average loss of $80,174.
