71499 (2024). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Is the Minister aware that the latest Justice Ministry’s Crime and Victims survey shows that fraud is the most common crime in the country, and that most fraud was identified by unauthorised bank transactions?
Hon Andrew Bayly: Please see my response to WPQ 71498 (2024). Further, the Ministry of Justice’s Crime and Victims Survey (Cycle 6) reported that 66% of fraud incidents were identified either by banks detecting suspicious or unauthorised bank transactions occurring in victims’ accounts, or by victims identifying the activity themselves.
