71451 (2024). Ingrid Leary to the Minister for Mental Health: Is the Minister aware of Associate Professor Clive Aspin's statement that “before I came away, I heard of five cases of people who'd lost jobs in the public sector, who either attempted suicide or presented at A&E with suicidal ideation”; if so, what, if anything, is he doing to address this?
Hon Matt Doocey: I am advised that the circumstances and factors that lead to suicide are complex. This Government is committed to suicide prevention. Public consultation has recently been completed on a draft Suicide Prevention Action Plan for 2025-2029. This plan will help provide a refreshed focus for New Zealand’s suicide prevention efforts to best meet the current challenges.
