71115 (2024). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: Does he intend to allocate any additional funds to cover Auckland’s cost of reinstating road signs and related infrastructure after the reversal of lower speed limits, and if so, how much?
Hon Simeon Brown: The Government has signed a new speed limit rule to reverse the previous government's blanket speed limit reductions. I am advised that RCAs will be able to seek funding from the National Land Transport Fund and NZTA will provide more information to RCAs in due course.
I note that a majority of the estimated implementation costs that Auckland Transport has identified are costs associated with implementing reduced variable speed limits outside schools to keep young New Zealanders safe. This is a priority for both Auckland Transport and our Government.
