71113 (2024). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: Does he support Auckland Council’s restoration of funding for road safety initiatives that were significantly reduced by the National Land Transport Programme, such as cycling in schools and walking school buses?
Hon Simeon Brown: It is a matter for councils to decide how ratepayers' money is spent. I note that the Government has delivered a record $8.4 billion in transport investment over the next three years to get transport back on track in Auckland, including a 74% funding boost for local road pothole prevention and an 42% funding boost for public transport operations and services when compared to funding allocated under the previous government.
The National Land Transport Programme 2024-27 is also prioritising three Roads of National Significance and a range of priority local projects to get Aucklanders where they want to go, quickly and safely.
