71048 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Conservation: Further to WPQ 62539 (2024), how, if at all, is New Zealand aligning its marine conservation efforts with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework?
Hon Tama Potaka: The Aotearoa New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy and its implementation plan are key vehicles for delivering and aligning New Zealand’s contribution to the global targets set under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).
Central and local government are working together to develop the next implementation plan for the Aotearoa New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy. The plan will take a practical and focused approach, prioritising the most critical actions central and local government can take to make a difference for nature and enable greater action from others. The critical actions, together with a range of existing programmes and policies, will deliver on New Zealand’s national targets.
