69660 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: Why has the Ministry’s review of the Victims’ Rights Act 2002 has been scaled back; are victims a priority for the Minister?
Hon Paul Goldsmith: The Ministry’s review of the Victims’ Rights Act 2002 is paused to allow the Ministry to focus on law and order priorities. It is scheduled to restart later this parliamentary term.
The Government has committed to a wide work programme that prioritises victims in the justice system. Key initiatives that are already underway include sentencing reforms, reinstating three strikes, and progressing the Family Violence (Strengthening Legal Protections) Amendment Bill and Sexual Violence (Strengthening Legal Protections) Amendment Bill.
