69590 (2024). Ingrid Leary to the Minister for Mental Health: Does the Minister agree with child psychiatrist Dr Hiran Thabrew that "In New Zealand, unlike other countries, there are no outpatient or residential units that specialise in OCD"; if so, what, if anything, will he do to address this?
Hon Matt Doocey: I am advised that Health New Zealand provides treatment for OCD when access to a specialist mental health service is indicated. In the first instance this would usually be on an out-patient basis within community mental health centres. Should inpatient care be required for severe disorders, or where there are significant comorbidities, this would be arranged within adolescent or adult inpatient services.
