Ingrid Leary to the Minister for Mental Health: Does the Minister agree with University of Otago Associate Professor Gabrielle Jenkin that “for every 1% increase in unemployment there is a 2% to 3% increase in suicides for those in that key working age group, which is 30 to 59. Things like social welfare and publicly funded support for individuals and families on low income is really, really important”; if so, what, if anything, will he do to address this?
