Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter July to September 2024 to achieve the expectation ‘Enable faster access to medicines by improving the timeliness of processes related to accessing new medicines’ under the objective ‘1.5 Faster access to medicines and pharmaceuticals’ within the Government Policy Statement on Health 2024–2027?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: In the quarter July to September 2024, Medsafe began actioning its work programme to streamline medicines approvals processes while maintaining appropriate safety measures. In September 2024, the Government agreed to a proposal by the Associate Minister of Health to introduce an alternative, expedited pathway for medicines approvals. The new pathway is currently in development.
