Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter April to June 2024 toward the action ‘Strengthen platforms for commercialising innovations’, under ‘Strategic Priority 4:’ within the Ministry of Health’s New Zealand Health Research Strategy 2017 – 2027?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: The Member will note that the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is responsible for delivering actions under the New Zealand Health Research Strategy in collaboration with the Health Research Council and the Ministry of Health. I am advised that during the quarter April to June 2024, Te Titoki Mataora (the MedTech Research Translator) continued to focus on the commercialisation of research that addresses healthcare needs and improves the equity of access to care and outcomes. This included the Research Acceleration Programme that funds early-stage deep tech concepts which address an unmet clinical or health need and have commercial potential.
