Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter April to June 2024 toward the action ‘Strengthen the clinical research environment and health services research’, under ‘Strategic Priority 2: Create a vibrant research environment in the health sector’ within the Ministry of Health’s New Zealand Health Research Strategy 2017 – 2027?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the quarter April to June 2024, the Ministry of Health and Health New Zealand have been working in collaboration to strengthen clinical trials and health research across Health NZ and the wider health and disability sector. Officials have briefed me on the leadership and resources required to establish a sustainable, nationally coordinated clinical trials infrastructure that can benefit all New Zealanders, and discussions are ongoing. I am also advised that during the same period, Health NZ has also stablished a national Research Office Managers’ Alliance and national research team to support research development.
