69510 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Associate Minister of Education: What advice, if any, did the Minister receive that suggested the changes to the school lunch program would save over $800m?

Hon David Seymour: I received the following advice from the Ministry of Education regarding savings by changing the school lunch program: • 24 September 2024 - Education Report: Cabinet Paper: Report Back on the Alternative Provision Model for Ka Ora Ka Ako | Healthy School Lunches Programme. I regularly discussed the Ka Ora Ka Ako Healthy School Lunch Programme with the Ministry of Education during weekly officials' meetings and met with the expert advisory group a number of times to discuss options that would lead to the substantial savings whilst providing a healthy, nutritious offering for the students. This answer does not cover members of my Office who receive a large amount of material every week. Asking them to collate that material would require substantial collation and research and prevent them from undertaking their substantive roles.
