69316 (2024). Ricardo Menéndez March to the Minister of Immigration: How many, if any, less Migrant Exploitation Protection Work Visas does the Government expect to grant following the changes to the Migrant Exploitation and Protection Visa on 17 October 2024?

Hon Erica Stanford: There is no projection for a reduction in number of Migrant Exploitation and Protection Visas (MEPVs) to be granted. The changes are designed to better align the requirements and conditions with the purpose of the visa while reflecting the reality that if a person is not able to find new employment within six months then allowing them to extend for another six months creates further vulnerability to further exploitation.
