68176 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Associate Minister of Health: Further to WPQ 5644, what progress, if any, has been made in the quarter (April to June 2024) on health promotion work programmes concerning 'first 1,000 days'?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that during the April to June 2024 quarter, Health NZ made the following progress:
First 1,000 days community innovation grant programme
• Ongoing work with partners leading community-led wellbeing activities.
• Extended 12 community innovation partnerships for third and final year.
• Progressed evaluation for community innovation programme.
• Learning Cycle One report received.
• Regular connection with Kahu Taurima and other government agencies to share insights and develop collective action on maternal and child wellbeing.
• Continued support for National Breastfeeding Week.
Oral health
• Published an evaluation report on oral health programme which found that the oral health toothbrush initiative was well implemented and fit-for-purpose.
• Worked to improve the sign up and ordering process for community providers.
Maternal mental health
• Partnership strengthened with E Tipu E Rea Whānau Services to address the discrimination faced by young Māori māmā.
• Procurement completed for a kaupapa Māori maternal wellbeing emotional regulation website and resources. This website will support depression.org.nz content around maternal wellbeing.
