Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter April to June 2024 to ‘Establish the necessary national and international links and collaborations to implement the AMR Action Plan effectively’ under ‘Objective 5: Governance, collaboration and investment’ within the New Zealand Antimicrobial Resistance Action Plan 2017?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that implementation of the New Zealand Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Action Plan has progressed gradually, noting that the Action Plan was published in 2017 and is now 7 years old. Since it was published, the health system reforms have occurred and the Prime Minister’s Chief Science Advisor published Kotahitanga: Uniting Aotearoa against infectious disease and antimicrobial resistance. Given this, the Ministry of Health has been working with the Ministry for Primary Industries and Health New Zealand to review current priorities for addressing AMR with a view to replacing the AMR Action Plan during 2024/25.
