68053 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Internal Affairs: What advice, if any, has the Minister received on the optimal number of online gambling operators within a regulated system that would keep harm to a minimum?

Hon Brooke van Velden: In my capacity as the Minister of Internal Affairs, I received a briefing from the Department of Internal Affairs (the Department) in December 2023 which outlined key issues and opportunities to consider when regulating online casino gambling and deciding what limit to set on the number of operators. On 1 May 2024, I met with the Department to discuss the online casino gambling regulatory design, and factors to consider in deciding whether to limit the number of operators and where such a limit might be set. The risks of having either too few or too many operators were discussed.
