67891 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: How many, if any, of the homeschooling whānau as at 17 October 2024 had not returned a Statutory Declaration for the 2024/1 period (January 1st - June 30th)?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) that as of 17 October 2024, there are 565 home-educating families who have not returned their Statutory Declaration for the period of 2024/1 period (1 January to 30 June 2024). Under section 38 of the Education and Training Act 2020, families who hold a current exemption to home educate their children have no legal obligation to return the Statutory Declaration to the Ministry.
