67753 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Associate Minister of Justice: Do Courts sit on Saturdays do deal with arrests, if so is it proposed that they be conducted entirely remotely - will this include cases where the defendant pleads guilty and is sentenced at first appearance?
Hon Nicole McKee: Yes, courts sit on Saturday to deal with arrests. Whether a Saturday arrest court matter is conducted remotely is dependent on AVL being available in the Police custody unit and courtroom, and if the judicial officer decides it can be via AVL.
