67742 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Defence: What actions, if any, have been taken by the Government to mitigate against oil spoil from the HMNZS Manawanui?

Hon Judith Collins: I understanding is there are currently no major oil leaks from the ship. The ship is stable and intact on the reef. There is a small diesel fuel leak resulting in a light sheen that is evaporating on the surface. Navy divers are working on methods to contain this leak. We are working closely with Samoan authorities and experts from Maritime NZ to do everything we can to minimise the environmental impacts.
