66584 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What actions, if any, have been taken in the quarter April to June 2024 to implement the recommendation ‘Acute capacity must be right sized to avoid the frequent disruption of the system’s ability to carry out planned care’ as part of Te Whatu Ora Planned Care Taskforce Reset and Restore Plan?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the April to June 2024 quarter, Health New Zealand implemented its system pressures plan to reduce the impact on planned care of higher acute demand and hospital occupancy. Actions included a focus on reducing hospital-initiated day of surgery cancellations, and cancellations related to acute demand (both theatres and ward/ recovery bed availability).
