66523 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What actions, if any, have been taken in the quarter April to June 2024 to implement the recommendation ‘Explore the role of patient-initiated follow-up after some procedures’ as part of Te Whatu Ora Planned Care Taskforce Reset and Restore Plan?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that patient directed follow-ups have been in use within some Health New Zealand districts for some time and are a safe and effective way of managing demand for follow-up appointments and releasing the capacity needed to provide first specialist assessments in a more timely manner. Districts have included this approach in developing local Health Target implementation plans during the quarter.
