66476 (2024). Arena Williams to the Minister for Building and Construction: Is the Minister concerned about perceptions that it might be harder to detect non-compliant work when inspecting remotely, and if so, what steps does he intend to take to address this concern?

Hon Chris Penk: I am more interested in reality than perceptions. It is worth noting, however, that a number of BCAs/councils already use remote inspections and the Government is currently consulting on ways to increase its use in a safe manner. We are consulting precisely because we acknowledge there are concerns around the ability of remote inspections to detect non-compliant work and we are determined to get the balance right. I am confident that we can get to an acceptable position in which we are increasing use of remote visual inspections, and hence productivity, without compromising on quality or assurance.
