66351 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Internal Affairs: What changes, if any, have been made to the Get Firewise programme based on feedback from schools after it has been delivered within their school?

Hon Brooke van Velden: I am advised that in general Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fire and Emergency) receives very positive feedback from teachers about the Get Firewise programme. Fire and Emergency New Zealand is gathering feedback from teachers against the three key learning outcomes of the Get Firewise programme, as it monitors student behaviour change after completing the programme. Key areas of change based on feedback to date include: • a refresh of the Get Firewise teacher’s lesson plan guidelines, key learning activities and resources, and student take-home materials; and • the creation of training materials and resources to support firefighters in engagement and delivery of their presentations to students.
