66341 (2024). Arena Williams to the Minister for Building and Construction: Is it the Minister's intention that record keeping of remote inspections will be mandatory, and that records will be publicly available for current and future homeowners?
Hon Chris Penk: The Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006 requires building consent authorities to keep records of the decision and reasons to issue a code compliance certificate (including the outcomes of inspections carried out, irrespective of whether they are carried out on site or remotely). The Building Act 2004 requires these records to be reasonably available.
MBIE is currently undertaking broad public consultation on options to increase the use of remote inspections and published a discussion document on 2 October 2024 which seeks feedback on the adequacy of current consumer protection measures. Submissions can be made by email, mail, or an online form on the MBIE Have Your Say website.
