66338 (2024). Arena Williams to the Minister for Building and Construction: Has the Minister asked for, or received, advice on the costs to building consent authorities to establish systems, technology, and training for remote inspections?
Hon Chris Penk: I have received advice that there will be costs, as well as benefits and savings, to building consent authorities to establish remote inspection practices. Some building consent authorities already have remote inspection systems, technology and training in place.
MBIE is currently undertaking broad public consultation on options to increase the use of remote inspections and published a discussion document on 2 October 2024 which seeks detailed information on (actual or anticipated) costs and savings. Submissions can be made by email, mail, or an online form on the MBIE website here Consultation on increasing the use of remote inspections in the building consent process | Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (mbie.govt.nz). Submissions close 5pm, 29 November 2024.
