66125 (2024). Steve Abel to the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology: How, if at all, will the Minister protect New Zealand’s non-genetically modified organisms (non-GMOs)/genetically engineered-free (GE-free) exports point of difference?
Hon Judith Collins: Primary sector producers will continue to be able to make their own decisions about what and how they farm. Our Government will support the development of assurance programmes for GE-free products and supply chain separation programmes that prevent unintentional crossover. These tools are used successfully internationally in Australia and North America where GMO and non-GMO supply chains coexist and are already used in New Zealand to keep organic and non-organic produce separate.
