66123 (2024). Steve Abel to the Minister for Resources: What estimates, if any, are kept on the projected number of coal mines in Aotearoa over the next 10 years?

Hon Shane Jones: I am advised by MBIE that no estimates are held on projected future numbers of coal mines. The decision to apply for a new/surrender an existing minerals permit for coal is a commercial one made by prospective/current operators.
