66121 (2024). Steve Abel to the Minister for Resources: What percentage of coal mined in New Zealand, if any, is used in industrial heating processes in New Zealand over the past 5 years, listed year on year?
Hon Shane Jones: MBIE publishes quarterly and annual statistics on coal production, imports, exports and use here https://www.mbie.govt.nz/assets/Data-Files/Energy/nz-energy-quarterly-and-energy-in-nz/Coal.xlsx. Though most of industrial coal consumption is likely used for process heat, it is not split it out from other industrial uses in the data. Therefore, the figures in the table attached set out the percentage of coal mined in New Zealand and used in all New Zealand industrial coal consumption in the past five years.
