Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What actions, if any, have been taken in the quarter (April to June 2024) to implement the recommendation ‘Services should reorient to meet the needs of Māori including interventions such as redeploying existing staff or using alternative locations to deliver services’ as part of Te Whatu Ora Planned Care Taskforce Reset and Restore Plan?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the April to June 2024 quarter, a systematic national review of several clinical pathways was underway, focusing on areas where people are experiencing prolonged wait times for FSA. I am further advised that Health New Zealand aims to develop standardised national pathways using expanded scope of practice clinicians to perform FSAs, thereby improving access and efficiency. The initial pathways selected include musculoskeletal (MSK), ophthalmology, and audiology — all of which represent areas with a significant burden for Māori.
