64755 (2024). Rt Hon Chris Hipkins to the Prime Minister: How many times, if any, has a Minister been granted an exemption to the 28-day rule for secondary legislation since 28 November 2023, by Minister?
Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: In my capacity as the Prime Minister, I am the Responsible Minister for the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. I am advised that information on waivers of the 28-day rule including requests for waivers to be granted is not held in a format that can be easily extracted within the time frame.
Most Orders in Council are published on the New Zealand Legislation website and Cabinet material is usually proactively released within 30 days of final decisions being made by Cabinet. This material includes any requests to waive the 28-day rule and decisions on those requests.
