Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that over the past two financial years, funding has cumulatively grown by $148 million to increase front line staff numbers and support cost pressures. This investment has resulted in over 300 new front-line staff being employed. These additional roles also allow Hato Hone St John (HHStJ) and Wellington Free Ambulance to ensure staff have access to meal and rest breaks. I am further advised that this investment has allowed Hato Hone St John to implement a new process in its busiest urban areas (Auckland, Hamilton, and Christchurch) to restrict the type of response that would result in a broken rest or meal break.
