64692 (2024). Steve Abel to the Minister for Resources: What advice, if any, has the Minister received on the cost to New Zealand’s environment and economy of a deepwater offshore blowout?

Hon Shane Jones: Multiple agencies and Ministers have responsibilities for the regulatory management of petroleum wells. The Crown Minerals Act 1991, for which I am responsible, does not regulate the environmental effects of petroleum exploration and mining activity. Therefore I have neither sought nor received advice in relation to this matter.
