Tangi Utikere to the Minister for State Owned Enterprises: What assessments, if any, have been conducted to determine whether the projected maintenance costs for the existing Interislander ferry fleet represent value for money compared to other options for maintaining Cook Strait connectivity?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: The Government is assessing alternatives to Project iReX currently and will have more to say on this in the future. In the meantime, KiwiRail has taken decisions to invest in the maintenance of its ferry fleet informed by international expertise and its own asset management procedures.
