63959 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: What, if any, measures are being taken to ensure that the roll out of on-board cameras to all of the 255 medium size inshore commercial fishing vessels is completed within the new timeframe, three months after the original deadline?
Hon Shane Jones: On-board cameras are operational on 155 vessels and the roll out is expected to see around 73 more vessels equipped with on-board cameras by May 2025. Note that the number of vessels to be equipped with on-board cameras varies as vessels enter and exit the fleet. Fisheries New Zealand is working with Spark, the service provider for on-board cameras to schedule on-board camera installation for remaining vessels. This includes identifying and mitigating to the extent possible factors that could affect the timing of final installation such as equipment, contractor or vessel availability, and any technical challenges faced during the installation process.
